The following event is not sponsored by the John E Mack Institute but may be of interest to our visitors:
Renewing Our Spiritual Relationship with Nature: Rediscovering Our Place in the Universe
October 22-24, 2004
Spring Hollow Lodge at Sharon Woods Metro Park
Westerville, Ohio
Introduction
This non-residential, three day training focuses on a wide variety of spiritual practices from cultures around the world and is both highly experiential and thought provoking. We will collaborate in the discoveries of some of the leading edge thinkers in our human-nature relationship as articulated by earth visionaries such as Father Thomas Berry, Joanna Macy, Steven Foster and Meredith Little, the work of philosopher/storyteller Ken Wilber, and many others. Participants will spend considerable time in the natural world practicing learned skills during the training.
The Content
Indigenous peoplesı stories, myths and legends, as well as modern quantum physics, remind us that we are not separate from the web of life, from the earth and all of its inhabitants and the skies and space around us. Animals ³talk², rivers ³teach², mountains communicate through their silence, and trees, lakes and wind all instruct humans on how to live well in a specific place. Humans, who have the capacity to listen well, know that Soul and Spirit found in all living things bond us with our place and our help form our passion to live as spiritual beings. This is how cultures were originally formed.
Today, given the complexity of a cascade of planetary crisis, including a decrease of resources, climate change, population explosion etc., many feel separated from ³nature² often through a diminishment of perception and faith, as well as by a bombardment of overwhelming stimuli. We have lost our ability to view the world as sacred and to see with ³sacred eyes². A culturally determined ³numbing² of earth consciousness depletes us and leads to great harm for the earth and all creatures.
However, an experiential re-awakening of a spiritual relationship with nature and all life is possible and perhaps essential for our survival as a species. Exploring the terrain of our interconnected state of planetary consciousness and ecological intelligence takes practice as our conditioning runs deep.
Join us in companionship with the forests and sky, creeks and critters of central Ohio, where we will use perception-enhancing practices, meditation, a time of solitude for deep listening, nature walks, contemplative approaches, lectures, group work, ceremony and many other activities to reawaken our essential and genetically encoded affinity with the rest of nature. This weekend is designed to be a powerful and meaningful experience in reconnection with self, community and the natural world.
